Plant Leaves In Clay Planters |
|
|
|
 |
How to create interesting garden containers
If you have a green thumb touch, or maybe not so much here are some tips that
may help when it comes to what types of plant materials to pot in your garden
containers. Of course, everyone’s tastes
are different and we encourage that, but these tips can work in general ways
also. These tips also work with all
types of garden containers. Clay
flowerpots, Clay Planters, Concrete Pottery, Glazed flowerpots, tall, thin and
window box pottery. Make it simple and
keep it simple!

Mix different leaf textures & sizes
Potting green plants in your home and garden pottery or containers is not the most exciting thing to do but if you think about it, they make a wonderful filler
for very little financial investment. If
you put your palms, flowers, bulbs or succulents in the center of your planter
and fill the border with leaves and greens you will have a much fuller flower
pot arrangement without a lot of expense.
Sample:
Lamb’s Ear: We love
these silky soft leaves. They range
from pale yellow to deep emerald green and have a fuzzy softness to them. These are great when planted in clay planters
all alone because they grow fast and provide lots of colors as well as filler. The leaves have almost a light grey cast to
them because of all the fuzz. Love it!

Ferns: Ferns are
known for their feathery tapered leaves.
They range in too many colors to list here but they are perfect as
filler or as stand-alone. Each leaf has
a natural bend to it so it looks lovely draped on the outside of your clay
flowerpots and glazed planters. Ferns
are also perfect for patio or porch hanging terracotta planters.

Hosta: These leaves
are little paddles that look lovely when mixed with spikey flowers or plants
that have height. A deep green that
complements all colors of flowers, even white.
When mixed with other green leaf plants they add a tremendous contrast
in color and style to all your clay planters or clay flowerpots.

So hopefully these few suggestions can spark
some inspiration in you and make potting up your home and garden planters, clay
flowerpots or clay window box planters easier, more enjoyable and lovely to
look at.

Mexican Terracotta Pottery |
|
|
|
 |
We have been importing Mexican garden planters for over 17 years. While the clay is heavy, very dark and considered porous it is still in high demand because of it's unique designs & original styles.
The Mexican clay pottery that we import have very distinctive designs. It's very rough, porous and many times lined with a black tar product, that helps to prolong the life of the clay. Each design is usually hand made and so each one is slightly different. One thing we can say is unless the outside of the planter is sealed with a water proof product the clay will break down from water and sun exposure.

These planters are not made to last and will start to deteriorate after a season of use. Our terracotta sealer will not waterproof the pot but it will help to prolong the life of the clay by laying down a barrier of protection. Just brush it on and let it dry.
Many of the styles, like garden hose containers, strawberry jars, pocket pots and animal planters have been standards in the industry for years and continue to be good sellers. These same patterns and styles are not being produced by other suppliers.

When it comes to price point, Mexican terracotta can't be beat. It is very inexpensive because it is easy to make, the clay is a powder product and it's fired in wood burning kilns instead of gas. Since the durability factor is poor we recommend using them with perennials and annuals flowers that will last only one season.
Good designs, unique styles and easy ability make these garden planters good sellers.

St Patrick's Day Flower Pots |
|
|
|
 |
Saw this cute idea for Spring & St. Patrick's Day all rolled into one and had to share.
Start with a clay flowerpot. We sell terracotta pots from Italy which means you are starting with a compact, smooth clay pot that is known in the pottery industry as the best clay pots available anywhere. Each pot is formed and then fired in a gas kiln so they are virtually identical. Of course they start with the finest clay material.
Find a green color of acrylic paint. Here you see two different shades which make a great contrast and interest. Spray or paint the pots, let them dry completely. Line the rim around the opening of the pot with a ribbon and glue or tape together. Then drop a plant of your choice inside. You don't even need to plant directly into the pottery. So, when the plant looks a bit worn you can just pop it out and put in another kind. Super Easy!
These make wonderful gifts for family, friends, neighbors or co-workers. And, you get to have some fun making them. It's a win - win situation. Get your Italian Clay Pots right here at Arizona Pottery. Click here. |

Thanksgiving Decorating Tips |
|
|
|
 |
|
Add a colorful touch to your holiday gathering with these
tips.
Wondering what to do this year for your holiday decorating. With family coming for Thanksgiving you want
to add a touch of color and warmth. They
key is to surround your home and create a tablescape with warm colors &
terracotta tones. Add burnt orange
blooms, petite pumpkins, and rustic touches with plain clay flowerpots.
The terracotta pottery has a warm tone to it that
compliments the orange and rust colored flowers. Line your table with pots of mums and
geraniums so that after the holiday they will still last and you can enjoy the
pots for months not days.

Use clay flowerpots as place-cards, to hold crayons for children to use and
have them decorate a picture you can all share.
This is not the time for bright spring colored planters or plant
materials. Rust, orange, wine, forest
green, deep reds, terracotta, browns & burnt tones.
Try to sprinkle a splash or two around the house. Place flowerpots on side tables on the entry
hall. Of course, adding a few pumpkins or gourds always decorates things
up. Don’t forget to put pots, pumpkins
and mums at the front door so that your guests will be welcomed with a splash
of color and a touch of the Thanksgiving holiday. Fill pots with candy corn and sweet treats. The point is to have fun, come up with clever
ideas and enjoy the holiday.
