Here's some tips on growing sunflowers in garden planters!
Who doesn't love the golden smiling faces of a sunflower. Now you can pot them into planters with great success by following a few easy tips.

First, there are many varieties that range in color and size. So of course unless you have giant planters selecting the smaller variety would be recommended. Dwarf sunflowers are the best place to start. These varieties can grow up to 3 feet tall so when selecting a flowerpot make sure it is deep and the right size.

Most dwarf varieties will still have extensive roots that can support their stems so make sure they have room to do so. You want a garden container that is deeper than wider to be able to do this.
Basically when it comes to size remember, the bigger the sunflower the bigger the planter is needed. And, as always make sure the planter has drain holes. This prevents root rot.

Next, place the outdoor planter where it will get sunlight. The sunflower plant needs this in order to perform it's best. If the pot doesn't get full sunlight try putting the garden planters on a coaster with wheels so you can move it around during the day.
Lastly, don't forget to water but not over water. And fertilize on a regular basis. Plants when potted tend to use the potting mix nutrients faster than in the ground, and therefore need you to replenish the soil regularly.

Sunflowers are fun to grow. They make you smile every time you see them and always add a burst of golden color to any landscape or patio areas.
