Here is a easy, 20 mins or less, DIY pottery project. When Laurie Cosgrove [lauriecosgrove.com] for full instructions, was wanting something fast and simple she made these wonderful and colorful flowerpots painted with a tribal feel to them. Perfect for planting in come next Spring.
Start with smooth terracotta flowerpots. Our's are perfect because they are imported from Italy and have velvety smooth sides. Not like Chinese or Mexican pottery which is very porous. Cover the flowerpots with chalkboard paint from Home Depot.
Use colorful paint to trim the rim of the flowerpots and the saucers that fit under them. Go to Pinterest to find patterns you like and can be inspired by. Detail on with small brushes or as she likes to use, a sponge brush. Either way decorating the flowerpot should be fun and creative.
Love this crafty idea using our clay flowerpots. This project is a bit more involved but look how cute they turn out and you will have them for year of year to display. These would work great for place holders also by writing the names of each guest right on the pot rims.
Supplies for one snowman.
1 - 4" clay flower pot
Blue craft acrylic paint
Matte finish sealer (American DuraClear Stain Varnish
White tissue paper
White pom poms
Scissors, toothpicks, hot glue gun
Directions:Paint the clay flowerpots blue with a white rim. When dry use a toothpick and white paint to decorate the pot with snowflakes. When dry, apply a sealer. Use a liner brush to paint an orange nose onto the back of the spoon. Use a toothpick dipped in black ink to paint the eyes. Use a black pen to add simile and eyebrows. Cut a 1/2" wide strip of felt and fringe the ends. Add a dab of hot glue about 3" from the right end. Place the snowman into the glue, then wrap the scarf around several times, securing with more hot glue.
Cut a small square of floral foam so that it fits snugly inside the clay flowerpot. Insert a snowman spoon into the foam. Tear or cut a sheet of tissue paper in half, roll up and fill the inside covering up the floral foam.
There are 4 different hat options so if you want more detail click this link.
To finish the flowerpots off, top them with sparkly pom poms to look like snowballs.
We saw this cute idea and wanted to share it with our flowerpot craft group this time of year. It's a fun and decorative way to display your potted poinsettia plants available at most garden centers. And, if you have some little ones hanging around the house this will surly make them smile.
2 terracotta flower pots with saucers
Red & Black Patio Paint from DecoArt
1.5" Black Ribbon
Gold glittery self adhesive foam sheet
Paint the terracotta flower pots red and the saucers black, let dry.
Cut 1" strip of white batting and glue to the bottom of each pot. You can substitute cotton balls or pom poms if necessary.
Glue the length of ribbon that fits all the way around the two pots when next to each other, adding an extra 8" of overlap. Cut a square shape from the gold glitter foam sheet, with a smaller square in the center for the belt buckle. Attach to the front.
Use outdoors for holiday decor, or inside as a centerpiece. Either way these are wonderful.
